The Director, Anambra State Library Board Mrs Obioma Obalum, has encouraged parents to ensure their children visit public libraries during school holidays to keep their minds active.

According to the director, holidays should not completely separate children from learning but should be used as a time to develop good reading habits.
“When children come to the library during holidays, they have access to books and educational materials that help them improve their knowledge. It also helps them to develop a love for reading which will benefit them in school.”

Mrs Obalum noted that the library provides a quiet and safe environment where children can study and learn new things.

A young user of Kenneth Dike State Central Library, Anointed Kalu said that visiting the library during holidays has helped improve her reading skills. “I come to the library to read storybooks and my school books. It helps me understand my subjects better and keeps me busy during the holiday,”

The Head of Department Architecture Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojokwu University, Dr Oluchi Ifebi said, “parents should make library visits part of their children’s holiday activities as it helps improve academic performance and keeps children engaged in meaningful learning even while schools are on break”.
