DUNUKOFIA MAYOR URGES WOMEN TO PRIORITISE EDUCATION, RESPONSIBLE PARENTING, SANITATION, SECURITY

By Mokwugwo Ogochukwu

‎The Mayor of Dunukofia Local Government Council, Chijioke Ozumba, Esq., has urged women in Nawgu and Ukwulu communities to prioritise education, responsible parenting, environmental sanitation and community security. Ozumba made the call on August 17 while participating in the 2026 Community August Meetings held by women in the two communities.

‎The visits were part of his administration’s ongoing engagement with women across Dunukofia during the 2026 Community August Meetings. He had earlier attended similar meetings in Umudioka and Umunnachi. Addressing the women, Ozumba described them as critical partners in family and community development, commending their resilience, unity and contributions to the social and economic advancement of their communities.

‎He particularly urged mothers and women leaders to ensure that every child, especially the girl-child, remains in school and has access to quality education.
‎According to him, educating children is an investment in the future of families and the wider community. The Mayor also stressed the importance of discipline, integrity, respect and good character in raising children, noting that academic education should be complemented by sound moral values to produce responsible citizens and future leaders.

‎On environmental sanitation, Ozumba encouraged the women to make cleanliness a daily responsibility by ensuring proper waste disposal, maintaining clean surroundings and regularly clearing drainage channels to prevent diseases and promote healthy living. He further called for greater security consciousness among residents, urging the women to collaborate with town unions, vigilante groups and other security stakeholders in protecting their communities.

‎He advised them to promptly report suspicious activities and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime. Ozumba commended the people of Nawgu and Ukwulu for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage and for the peaceful and orderly conduct of their August Meetings.

‎He also commended the Presidents-General, women leaders and residents of both communities for their commitment to unity and peaceful development. The Mayor prayed for continued peace, progress, unity and prosperity in Nawgu and Ukwulu, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to grassroots engagement and partnership with the people.

‎In separate gestures of appreciation, the two communities presented the Mayor with agricultural produce. Ozumba expressed gratitude for the gifts, describing them as a reflection of the communities’ hospitality, industriousness and productivity.

‎The Mayor was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Dunukofia Local Government Council, the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Dunukofia Congress of Councillors, Supervisors, government officials and other stakeholders.

‎Ozumba’s participation in the community August Meetings across Dunukofia reflects his administration’s emphasis on grassroots engagement and its recognition of women as key partners in advancing education, responsible parenting, environmental sustainability, peace and security.
