‎The Joint Transporters Forum, representing commercial motorcycle, tricycle, taxi, bus, shuttle, and mini-truck operators across Anambra State, reaffirmed unity during a meeting with the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.
‎
‎Speaking at the meeting, the President of the Joint Transporters Forum, Elvis Oliver Okolie, said the visit was to formally introduce the newly unified leadership. He noted that the reconciliation followed the Commissioner’s directive encouraging transport groups to resolve differences before engaging with government.
‎

‎Okolie disclosed that extensive consultations, dialogue, and compromises among previously divided groups produced a consensus leadership structure that accommodates all stakeholders. He said the arrangement has ended longstanding rivalries and will promote cooperation across the state’s transport sector.
‎
‎He described the reconciliation as a significant milestone and assured government that transport operators would sustain peaceful collaboration, strengthen operational discipline, and support efforts toward safer and more efficient transportation services in Anambra.
‎

‎Also speaking, the President of the Anambra State Drivers Welfare Association, Prince Moses Ohanebo, and members affirmed their support for the unified Forum. They pledged peaceful operations, cooperation, and alignment with government’s transportation development objectives.
‎
‎The Forum unveiled the Drivers’ Welfare Club, designed to provide financial assistance to commercial drivers. Benefits include compensation for permanent disabilities, support for minor accident injuries, and death benefits for bereaved families.
‎
‎According to the Forum, members will also have access to interest-free cooperative loans for vehicle repairs without collateral, provided a guarantor is a fellow registered member. The initiative, it said, will improve financial stability and ensure uninterrupted transport operations across the state.
‎
‎Responding, Commissioner Ibuzo welcomed the reconciliation and the welfare initiative. He described both developments as commendable steps toward strengthening Anambra’s transport sector through collaboration, responsible leadership, and improved stakeholder engagement.
‎
‎The Commissioner announced plans to harmonize the activities of the Joint Transporters Forum and the Drivers’ Welfare Club. He stressed that unity would help eliminate illegal practices, improve discipline, and deliver people-centered transportation services across Anambra.
