DR. ODOGWU RE-ELECTED AS NUJ ANAMBRA CHAIRMAN

The atmosphere was filled with joy as supporters of Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu erupted in jubilation, chanting and dancing in celebration of his re-election as Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council. The celebration kicked off immediately after he was declared the winner of the 2025 NUJ  Election, held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center,  Awka 

The chairman and treasurer seats were the only positions contested, with Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD emerging victorious against Comrade Ngozi Obileri by a significant margin of 173 to 40 votes.  Meanwhile, Comrade Chibuzo Obidike secured the Treasurer position with 168 votes, defeating Comrade Ogemdi Ozoemena who garnered 45 votes.

Other positions were returned unopposed, with Comrade Beatrice Onuchukwu as Vice Chairman, Dr. Okechukwu Onuegbu as Secretary, Comrade Chinyere Ogbuagu as Assistant Secretary, and Comrade Grace Onwukwe as Financial Secretary. A bye-election will be held in a few months to fill the Internal Auditor position.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, expressed heartfelt gratitude to journalists who participated in the election, ensuring their voices were heard. He pledged that the new executives would remain humble, dedicated, and committed to serving the union with love and integrity, striving to exceed previous achievements 

The Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), South East zone, Comrade Adiukwu Eze, who supervised the election, emphasized the importance of adhering to the union’s rules and being familiar with fellow colleagues for those seeking to contest future positions. He advised journalists to be committed to the union’s affairs and support the elected executives in taking the union to greater heights.

Dr. Onyeka Uwakwe, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic Oko, congratulated the new executive, urging the chairman to utilize his experience to unite all members of the union for the betterment of all.

Meanwhile, Stanley Onunwkwo, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, also commended the newly elected executives, stressing the need for teamwork and unity to build a stronger union.

The Media Executive to late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Mr. Kamen Chuks Ogbonna extended his warmest congratulations to the newly elected executives, urging them to continue upholding the principles of the fourth Estate as the society’s watchdog .
