‎The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, has received the Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 15 Brigade, Awka, Brigadier General S. Ahmadu, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two institutions.
‎

‎The visit, which took place on October 8, saw Brigadier General Ahmadu lead a delegation to the hospital, where he congratulated Dr. Umeakuewulu on her appointment as the first female Chief Medical Director of COOUTH.
‎

‎The Brigade Commander described her appointment as a significant milestone and wished her a successful tenure. He also commended the hospital’s management for the quality of medical care provided to soldiers receiving treatment at the facility, noting that prompt and effective healthcare services play a vital role in boosting the morale of military personnel, particularly those injured in the line of duty.
‎
‎Brigadier General Ahmadu urged the hospital to sustain its timely response to medical emergencies involving military personnel, emphasising the importance of continued cooperation between healthcare providers and the Nigerian Army.
‎
‎In her response, Dr. Umeakuewulu expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit, describing the engagement as an opportunity to strengthen the existing relationship between COOUTH and the Nigerian Army.
‎
‎She identified key areas of mutual cooperation, including patient referrals, healthcare services for military personnel, outpatient care and improved access to medical treatment at the hospital.
‎
‎The CMD assured the delegation that the hospital would continue to provide military personnel with the necessary medical attention. She, however, encouraged soldiers to present valid military identification cards when accessing healthcare services to facilitate proper identification and processing.
‎”Once you show your card as a soldier of the Nigerian Army, COOUTH will know exactly where to pick the case from,” she said.
‎
‎The visit concluded with a group photograph featuring members of the COOUTH management team and the Nigerian Army delegation, underscoring the commitment of both institutions to strengthening their relationship and improving access to healthcare for military personnel.
