‎The Senate of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has prohibited the conduct of Sign Out Ceremonies by final-year students across all campuses of the institution.
‎
‎The decision was announced in a statement issued on June 26, by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze.
‎
‎According to the statement, the resolution was adopted during the university’s 149th Senate Meeting held on June 24 after the Senate considered the report of the Committee on Students’ Social Regulations.
‎
‎The university management explained that Sign Out Ceremonies are not part of the institution’s approved academic calendar and are not recognised as official student activities.
‎
‎Consequently, all Deans and Heads of Departments have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the directive within their respective faculties and departments.
‎
‎The Senate also mandated academic leaders to sensitise students on the implications of violating the directive and the importance of complying with the new policy.
‎
‎It warned that any student found organising, participating in, or engaging in activities associated with the banned Sign Out Ceremonies would be subjected to appropriate disciplinary action.
‎
‎According to the management, the ban is aimed at strengthening discipline, maintaining order on campus, and ensuring that all student activities align with the university’s established rules and regulations.
