Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence several new academic programmes at the institution. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, announced the development on Sept. 24, during the university’s 35th Inaugural Lecture held at the ETF Auditorium.
Omenugha, who joined the event virtually from Abuja, said she was in the nation’s capital to conclude the approval process with the NUC.
The development followed an inspection visit by the NUC to the university last month to assess the facilities and infrastructure available for the proposed programmes.
According to the university, the newly approved programmes will expand academic opportunities for prospective students seeking admission into the institution.
The programmes listed by the university include B.Sc. International Relations, B.Rad. Radiography, B.Sc. Software Engineering, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Public Health and B.Sc. Project Management.
Others are B.Sc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management, B.Sc. Transport Management, B.Sc. Taxation, B.Sc. Procurement, B.Sc. Information Technology, B.EHS. Environmental Health Sciences, OD. Optometry and D.PT. Physiotherapy.
The university said the approval would provide admission seekers with more programmes from which to choose as they pursue their academic and career aspirations. COOU is expected to commence admissions into the approved programmes following the NUC’s approval.
