In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and service, the Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, marked his birthday with a one-day community outreach program aimed at economically empowering indigent market women and persons with disabilities.
The event, tagged “Ego Afia Table”, was held at the Awka South LGA headquarters and featured free medical screenings, financial support, and donation of hospital equipment to local health facilities. Beneficiaries were drawn from various communities across Awka South.
Addressing attendees, Mayor Okafor emphasized that the initiative was inspired by his desire to bring hope to the less privileged at the grassroots level, especially those grappling with economic hardship.
“I’m deeply touched by the challenges our people face. This is the best time to show love and support. I’m replicating the vision of Mr. Governor to build a prosperous homeland for all.

“Use this financial support wisely—invest it in your businesses for growth. And please, take advantage of the free medical tests available today. Your health matters.”
The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, praised the mayor’s initiative, describing it as a timely intervention in the face of economic hardship.
“This is the kind of change we’ve been clamoring for. Supporting market women and persons with disabilities is a bold step. Prince Okafor has shown true leadership, and we must reciprocate by supporting Governor Chukwuma Soludo come November 8,” Okoye said.
Mrs. Rita Chike Obikwue also lauded the mayor’s efforts, noting his visible impact since assuming office.
“Prince Okafor has taken bold steps in transforming Awka South. His commitment to development is commendable, and we must continue to support him,” she said.
The highlights of the event include the distribution of cash grants to market women and persons with disabilities, donation of hospital equipment to health facilities across Awka South and free medical screenings conducted on-site by nurses and cultural dance performance by the Awka South Solution Vanguard.
The event was graced by notable personalities including Awka South APGA Chairman APGA Woman Leader, Chairman LocalGovernment Commission, Ward Councillors, and Captains of Industries.
The outreach not only celebrated the mayor’s birthday but also reinforced his commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development.
