Mrs Patricia Igwebuike, Anambra Commissioner for Transport has called on the people of Anambra East to stop risking their lives due to ignorance.
Mrs Igwebuike made the call during her sensitization visit at Otuocha marine.
She stressed on the importance of life jackets while traveling on waterways to avoid drowning inside the river if there is any emergency or accidents, saying that there is need to punish those who do not adhere to the instructions.
Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, the chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, thanked the commissioner for making out time for the great visit and sensitization to the people of Anambra East.
He pleaded with marine users to adhere to the instructions given to them, informing them that his administration will do everything to make sure that marine users make use of life jackets while traveling on water.
The chairman promised the commissioner that those materials donated by government will be handled appropriately.
He thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for finding Anambra East worthy of such empowerment.
Mrs Uchechukwu Chukwuemeka Udekwe, a marine user expressed gratitude over the life jackets donated to them by the state government. He pleaded that they need more safety tools while transporting themselves across the riverine areas like speed boat and other materials.
