As part of ongoing efforts to reposition the commerce sector and advance the economic development agenda of the Anambra State Government, the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Mr. Nomso Chukwuma Ebonwu, on June 1, held a strategic meeting with the Director of the UNIZIK Business School, Prof. Pius Okoye.

The meeting focused on areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Commerce and the UNIZIK Business School aimed at enhancing business development, entrepreneurship and capacity building across the State.

A major highlight of the discussion was the proposed establishment of a Centre for Commerce and Industry within the UNIZIK Business School, a partnership initiative designed to provide traders, small business owners and entrepreneurs with practical business skills, including bookkeeping, accounting, financial management and other relevant competencies required for business growth and sustainability.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the capacity of businesses across the State, improve record-keeping practices and promote a more structured and competitive commercial environment.

They also discussed a potential partnership for the hosting of the second edition of the Quarterly Business Roundtable, a platform envisioned to bring together business leaders, industry stakeholders, investors and thought leaders from across Anambra State and beyond.

The proposed forum is expected to facilitate robust discussions on the state of the national and subnational economy, generate ideas for improving commerce and industry, and foster greater collaboration between government and the private sector.

The event will also provide an opportunity to showcase some of the landmark projects and achievements of the Solution Government under the leadership of Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, including the Solution Fun City, the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC), the Anambra Aerotropolis Project, the Anambra State Country Club and other transformative projects currently underway across the State.

In addition, the platform is expected to serve as an avenue for engaging the business community on the Anambra Dubai Taiwan Silicon Valley Initiative, a strategic programme aimed at positioning Anambra as a leading destination for innovation, technology, manufacturing and investment.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Ebonwu reaffirmed his commitment to driving policies and partnerships that will strengthen commerce, support enterprise development and contribute meaningfully to the realization of Governor Soludo’s vision for a prosperous and economically vibrant Anambra State.

The engagement forms part of a series of strategic consultations being undertaken by the commissioner since assuming office, underscoring his determination to foster innovation, deepen stakeholder collaboration and elevate the Ministry of Commerce to greater levels of performance and impact.
