COMMENTARY ON WORLD CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION DAY (APRIL 21)

By Lilian Ezejiegu

Today, April 21, marks World Creativity and Innovation Day, a day set aside by the United Nations to celebrate the power of creativity and innovation in improving lives and building a better society.
Creativity is the ability to think in new ways, while innovation is turning those ideas into practical solutions. From technology and medicine to farming, education, and entertainment, creativity and innovation continue to shape our world.
Many of the things we enjoy today were once simple ideas. Mobile phones, digital banking, online learning, and improved farming methods all came through creative thinking and innovation.

In Nigeria, creativity can help solve many challenges such as unemployment, waste management, insecurity, and poor infrastructure. Our youths are already showing talents in music, fashion, film, technology, and business. What they need is support, training, and opportunities to grow.

In Anambra State, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has taken steps to promote innovation through the establishment of the Solution Innovation District, an initiative designed to empower young people with digital skills, entrepreneurship training, and access to modern technology. The project is helping to prepare youths for global opportunities in the digital economy.

World Creativity and Innovation Day reminds governments, schools, businesses, and individuals to encourage new ideas and reward problem-solving minds. Every great invention starts with one idea.

Let us use this day to inspire ourselves to think differently, create solutions, and turn dreams into reality.
Remember, creativity is not only for artists or scientists. Everyone can be creative in their daily lives.

Happy World Creativity and Innovation Day.
