Safeguarding Anambra’s Children: A Commitment That Cannot Wait
By Lilian Ezejiegu
Every June 4, the United Nations observes the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, highlighting the pain and trauma many children suffer through abuse worldwide.
Established in 1982 by the UN General Assembly, this day renews global commitment to protecting children’s rights, safety, dignity, and wellbeing in every society and nation.
The observance reminds humanity that no child deserves violence, neglect, or fear. Every child deserves love, care, and protection to grow, dream, and thrive peacefully.
Anambra State joins this important global reflection with urgency and determination, recognizing that protecting children is not just social responsibility but a critical governance priority for development.
Under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, child protection policies are being strengthened to address abuse, exploitation, neglect, and harmful practices affecting vulnerable children.
Through community engagement and social welfare programmes, the government is building safer spaces where every child is valued, protected, and given equal opportunities for growth.
The humanitarian interventions of First Lady Mrs. Nonye Soludo continues to support vulnerable children through education, shelter, counselling, and empowerment programmes that restore hope and dignity.
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, alongside schools, churches, and civil society groups, remains committed to early detection, swift response, and child safety advocacy.
As Anambra reflects with the world, citizens are urged to speak up against abuse, protect the innocent, and build a society where every child’s life is valued.
