CLO CELEBRATES ANAMBRA AT 35, COMMENDS SOLUDO, PAST LEADERS’ CONTRIBUTIONS

‎The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Anambra State Branch, has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the government and people of Anambra State on the 35th anniversary of the creation of the state.
‎
‎In a statement issued in Awka and signed by the Chairman, Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, AMBP-UN, Secretary, Comrade Chidi Mbah, and a member of the State Executive Council, Comrade Damian Ogudike, the organisation described the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on Anambra’s journey and chart a course for greater development on Aug. 27.

‎CLO themed its anniversary message, “Anambra Rejoice,” while commending successive administrations for their contributions to the growth and development of the state. The organisation paid tribute to the pioneer governor, Dr. Chukwuemeka Pius Ezeife, CON, for laying the foundation of the state and promoting the “Think Home Philosophy,” prudent management of public resources and direct engagement with citizens through town hall meetings.

‎It also commended former Governor Chris Ngige, OON, for his interventions in road construction and rehabilitation, as well as his administration’s efforts in the payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities and other entitlements. And also former Governor Peter Obi, CON, was praised for reducing the cost of governance and making strategic investments in healthcare, education, security and critical infrastructure, while former Governor Willie Obiano was recognised for his contributions to security and infrastructure development.

‎The organisation reserved special commendation for the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for what it described as efforts to sustain and deepen the state’s development. CLO highlighted the administration’s free and compulsory education up to Senior Secondary School 3, free antenatal and maternity services for pregnant women, establishment of the Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), and campaigns against fraudulent practices and get-rich-quick syndromes.

‎“By these actions, Mr. Governor has engraved his name in the hearts of Ndi Anambra as a leader committed to value re-orientation and human capital development.” The organisation also used the anniversary to call on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to give greater attention to the Southeast.

‎CLO urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly to expedite action on the creation of additional states in the Southeast, citing the recommendations of the 2014 National Constitutional Conference. According to the organisation, additional state creation would promote equity, inclusiveness and balanced development within Nigeria’s federal structure.

‎Looking ahead, CLO identified six critical areas requiring sustained attention as Anambra enters another phase of its development. They include strengthening security through community policing and intelligence gathering; accelerating the construction and rehabilitation of federal and state roads; expanding access to quality and technology-driven education; upgrading primary healthcare centres and specialist hospitals; creating jobs and skills-development opportunities for youths; and intensifying efforts to control erosion across the state.

‎“Anambra has the human capital, the enterprise spirit, and the leadership to become Nigeria’s foremost sub-national economy. What is required now is unity of purpose, continuity of good policies, and sincerity of purpose,” CLO stated. The organisation congratulated Ndi Anambra at home and in the diaspora on the 35th anniversary and prayed for continued peace, prosperity and progress in the state.
