The Central Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Agulu, Onitsha Archdiocese, has honoured its Grand Patroness and Patronesses in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the growth of the organisation and the Catholic Church.
The honours were conferred on July 24, during the CWO’s combined July/August meeting held at Agulu Town Hall, Ozobulu Street, Agulu, with members from the town’s eight villages and other well wishers in attendance.
In her welcome address, the President of Central CWO Agulu, Mrs. Nkechi Okeke, said the recognition was in appreciation of the honourees’ unwavering moral, spiritual and material support to the organisation over the years.
Okeke noted that their commitment to the activities of the CWO and the welfare of various parishes had strengthened the organisation and inspired greater dedication among members.
The Crown Mistress, Mrs. Elizabeth Ezeani, congratulated the honourees and urged them to regard the recognition as a call to greater service, while continuing to promote peace, unity and the work of God.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, the Grand Patroness, Mrs. Ngozi Obi, expressed gratitude to the organisation for the honour and pledged to sustain her spiritual and material support towards the continued growth of the CWO.
Also speaking, one of the Patronesses, Mrs. Chinyere Okafor of St. Mathias Parish, Umuowelle, Agulu, thanked the organisation for the recognition and promised to remain committed to its ideals, praying for God’s wisdom and grace to fulfil her responsibilities.
Highlights of the event included the reception of the Blessed Virgin Mary from Omugwo at St. Patrick’s Parish, the crowning of the Grand Patroness and Patronesses, a competition on virtuous women, offertory by parishes and individuals, auction sales and entertainment.
The members described the ceremony as memorable and offered prayers for God’s continued blessings upon the Grand Patroness, Patronesses and the entire Central CWO Agulu.
