The Catholic Women Organization president, Onitsha Region, Anambra State, Lady Ikpeama Uju has expressed great concerns on the trend of mothers dedicating the upbringing of their child to Nannies while they focus on unimportant things.
Lady Uju stated this during the activities for marking the 2026 Mother’s Day celebration in Onitsha Archdiocese as the Catholic Mothers joined their counterparts across the globe to mark the 2p26 Mother’s Day Celebration.
She also lamented on what she described as a noticeable erosion of discipline and modesty among children, linking it to partly or insufficient parental attention given to children.
There is a needful Mothers to be emotionally and physically present in the lives and activities of their children. She further emphasized and called on young mothers to emulate the virtues, discipline, and commitment demonstrated by older generations.

Ikpeama stressed that while the Nanny may assist with house chores, they cannot replace a Mother’s love, guidance, correction and spiritual growth and leadership within the home.
Also speaking at the event, the Director of the Catholic Women Organisation in the Archdiocese of Onitsha, Dr Ngozi Nwanosike, urged Mothers to remain steadfast in faith and renew their commitment to prayer as the foundation of a peaceful home.
Dr. Ngozi also stated that “Mothers exemplify divine love daily through their patience, kindness, resilience and unrelenting support for their families”.
She described mothers as pillars of faith and vital instruments of God’s love within their homes and church communities.The stability of both church and society largely depends on the moral strength of mothers.
Mothers play a critical role in shaping lives, sustaining families through prayer, and inspiring future generations through their strength and character.
Nwonosike finally encouraged Mothers not to be discouraged by the challenges that comes with parenting, reminding them that their sacrifices, even when unnoticed by the society are seen and always rewarded by God.
Adding to the clerical perspective, The Archdiocesan Chaplain of CWO, Rev. Fr. Collins Okoye, described motherhood as a sacred and divine calling root in sacrifice, faith and love.
He noted that the church and society rely heavily on the moral examples set by virtue mothers.
Motherhood is a vocation that shapes the moral fabric of society. The strength of our families ad future generations depends greatly on the values mothers instill in their children.
Fr. Okoye urged unity among mothers, encouraging mutual support, perseverance, and commitment to Christian virtues in raising children.
