The Parish Priest, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Akpo in Aguata Local Government Area, Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Ubah has urged married couples to remain committed and patient with one another, describing commitment as a vital tool for sustaining marriage.
Fr. Ubah made the call while admonishing the congregation shortly after mass at the church on October 4, stressing that marriage is an indissoluble union that requires proper scrutiny and careful consideration before couples enter into it.
The cleric advised both men and women against rushing into marriage, urging them to carry out adequate verification and ensure they understand their prospective partners before making the commitment.
He, however, noted that even with proper verification, couples should understand that marriage is not always a bed of roses, as there would be moments of happiness as well as challenges.
“Marriage could be sweet at some point and bitter at another. The important thing is that with commitment, turbulent moments in a marriage can be overcome,” he said.
Fr. Ubah urged couples to exercise patience and understanding, stressing that difficult situations are not permanent and encouraging them to remain hopeful while navigating challenges in their marriages.
He also advised married people against contemplating divorce, warning that allowing such thoughts to take root could create room for further problems in the family.
The priest said sustaining more marriages would help build stronger families, which, in turn, would contribute positively to the development and stability of society.
