BREAKING: ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY RECEIVES SOLUDO’S COMMISSIONER NOMINEES, INVOKES CONSTITUTIONAL POWERS FOR SCREENING

The Anambra State House of Assembly has received the first batch of commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, setting the stage for their screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.

The list was presented during plenary and read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, who subsequently referred the nominees to the House Committee on Screening and Election Matters for detailed legislative scrutiny.

Recall that Section 192 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), which provides that “any appointment to the office of Commissioner of the Government of a State shall be subject to confirmation by the House of Assembly of the State.”

The nominees and their designated portfolios are:

Agriculture — Dr. Ben Chuks Odoemena

Budget and Economic Planning — Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoye, FCCA

Culture, Entertainment and Tourism — Mr. Udoji Amedu

Education — Dr. Ekene Ogugua

Environment — Dr. Clem Aguiyi

Finance — Mr. Izuchukwu M. Okafor

Health — Dr. Afam Obidike

Information and Value Reformation — Dr. Law Mefor

Justice/Attorney-General — Barr. Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN

Lands — Prof. Offornze Amucheazi, SAN

Local Government and Community Affairs — Barr. Vin Ezeaka

Petroleum and Mineral Resources — Prof. Charles Ofoegbu

Physical Planning and Urban Development — Barr. Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu

Power — Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agummadu

Works and Infrastructure — Arc. Okey Ezeobi

Transport — Hon. Eddy Ibuzo

Women Affairs and Social Development — Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi

Youth Development and Sports — Mr. Patrick Agha, MBA

Speaker Udeze urged the committee to conduct a thorough but timely screening process to facilitate the swift constitution of the State Executive Council, stressing that competence and integrity must remain central to the exercise.

The development underscores the Assembly’s constitutional oversight role and marks a critical step toward strengthening governance and accelerating policy implementation across Anambra State.
