The Bishop of the Diocese of Nnewi, Anglican Communion, the Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, has urged women to strengthen their families through prayer, sacrifice and courage.

Obi gave the charge on Oct. 8, at the opening of the 31st Nnewi Diocesan Women’s Conference at St. James Anglican Church, Ichi, Nnewi.

Speaking on the theme, “Be Strong and Courageous,” taken from Joshua 1:9, the bishop urged the women to develop the courage and spiritual strength to confront challenges in their families.

He cited Exodus 17:8, which recounts the battle between the Israelites and the Amalekites, to illustrate the need for perseverance and a readiness to confront difficulties. He identified marriage, conception and parenting as three major battles women should be prepared to face.

Obi urged the women to pray for their husbands and other family members, particularly those struggling with addiction and other challenges, stressing the importance of their spiritual wellbeing.

He also encouraged them to pray for their children’s academic progress and future, while making sacrifices to protect them from gangs and other negative influences.

The bishop further urged the women to prioritise their health, remain spiritually strong and sustain their prayer lives.

He stressed the importance of loyalty to those in authority, citing Joshua as an example and noting that loyalty attracts God’s attention.

He called on the women to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, praying for divine grace, strength and the capacity to maintain effective prayer lives.

The four day conference began with a Eucharistic service and featured a health talk, an exposition of the theme and a welcome song by the host church.

The bishop’s wife, Mrs. Ukamaka Zipporah Obi, other clergy wives and delegates from across the diocese attended the conference.

The bishop and his wife were received by members of the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade, the host church, community members and other congregants.
