The Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo, has called on Christian families to uphold the sanctity of marriage by rejecting divorce and embracing patience, forgiveness and mutual understanding as essential ingredients for peaceful homes.
Delivering his sermon at the grand finale of the four-day annual Women’s Conference of the Diocese on the Niger in Anambra State, Bishop Nwokolo expressed concern over the growing rate of divorce among married couples. He described the trend as inconsistent with Christian teachings and African cultural values, urging couples to resolve disagreements through love, tolerance and reconciliation rather than separation.
The cleric also cautioned Christians against living double-standard lives, stressing that genuine faith should be reflected in everyday conduct. He urged believers to demonstrate godly virtues such as humility, obedience, kindness, mercy and integrity in their homes, workplaces, churches and communities.
According to the Bishop, true thanksgiving is not only expressed through songs and words of praise but also through righteous living and total commitment to God’s commandments. He encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and serve God wholeheartedly without compromising biblical principles.
The conference featured Bible studies, seminars, expository teachings, deliverance prayers, fundraising for diocesan projects and musical performances, all aimed at strengthening the spiritual lives of participants and promoting Christian family values.
More than 8,000 women delegates, alongside clergy, parishioners and other guests from across the Diocese on the Niger, attended the conference, which concluded with a renewed call for believers to become role models in promoting strong families, moral values and peaceful coexistence in society.
