The Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, has declared a sweeping crackdown on drug abuse and illegal drug activities, warning offenders to vacate the area or face prosecution.
The directive comes amid what the Mayor described as an alarming rise in the sale and consumption of hard drugs within the Local Government Area. Substances specifically mentioned include cocaine, heroin, tramadol, and crystal methamphetamine (popularly known as Mkpuru Mmiri).
Speaking on the development, Mayor Okafor said: “Our priority is to safeguard public health, restore order, and ensure the safety of our residents.

We urge every member of the community to reject illicit drug activities and support our collective effort to build a healthier and safer Awka South.”
The Local Government confirmed that it is working closely with security agencies to launch full-scale enforcement operations.
Authorities stressed that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted without exception.
Residents have been strongly advised to steer clear of all forms of illicit drug activities.
The Mayor emphasized that this announcement serves as a final warning, adding that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
