Austica Memorial College, Nanka, has recorded a remarkable achievement at the Continental Finals of the African Biology Olympiad (ABO), winning multiple gold medals at the competition held in Lagos, Nigeria, from Oct. 14 to 18.
The competition brought together high performing students, teachers and representatives from participating African countries to showcase their knowledge, scientific skills and commitment to excellence in biology.
Austica Memorial College distinguished itself at the continental event, with its teacher, Miss Nnolim Chidiebube, and student, Awiaka Sixtus, emerging among the top performers.
The school’s delegation, comprising two teachers and 11 students, advanced to the final stage after progressing through preliminary rounds involving more than 1,000 students. At the finals, participants were assigned to different clusters and assessed individually and collectively.
At the end of the competition, Miss Nnolim Chidiebube won a Gold Medal for Best Scientific Teacher (Team Coach), while Awiaka Sixtus earned a Gold Medal as one of the Best Scientific Students.
The college also received a Gold Medal as the Top Team, alongside a special recognition award for its dedication to quality education, student development and its contribution to advancing learning across Africa.
The achievement highlights the importance of effective teaching, scientific inquiry and sustained investment in students’ intellectual development, reflecting the school’s commitment to academic excellence, character formation and the nurturing of young talents.
The management of Austica Memorial College congratulated the award recipients, commending their hard work, dedication and outstanding performance, while acknowledging the commitment of the school’s science teachers in preparing the students for the competition.
The success marks a significant milestone for the institution and provides further encouragement for students to pursue excellence in science and other academic disciplines.
