The Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area(LGA), Hon. Mrs. Edith Nkeiru Ndive, has called on women in the area to take a more active role in community affairs, education, peacebuilding and political awareness, stressing that their participation is essential to the development of families and communities.
Ndive made the call on Aug. 8, during her continued grassroots engagement with women across Anambra West as part of activities marking the annual August Meeting.

The nayor visited St. Michael’s Cathedral, Umuikwu Anam; Holy Cross Catholic Parish, Oroma Etiti Anam; St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Umudiora Anam; Emmanuel Anglican Church; and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, where she interacted with women on issues affecting families and the wider community.
Speaking during the engagements, Ndive assured the women that her administration would continue to promote unity, peace, inclusion and development across Anambra West, while supporting the development agenda of the Anambra State Government.

She urged women to see themselves not merely as beneficiaries of government programmes but as important partners in community development, encouraging them to contribute their ideas and participate actively in decisions that affect their communities.
The mayor stressed the importance of education and responsible parenting, urging mothers to provide their children with proper education and guidance.
She cautioned parents against harmful practices, including child marriage, noting that such practices could limit children’s educational opportunities and negatively affect their future.

Ndive encouraged parents to take advantage of the state government’s free education policy by sending their children to school, stressing that education equips young people with knowledge and skills that can expand their opportunities in life.
She described Anambra West women as hardworking, resilient and responsible pillars of their families and communities, urging them to channel their strength and influence towards peace, unity and collective development.
The mayor assured the women that her administration would continue to listen to their concerns, maintain direct engagement with communities and work with them to address issues affecting their welfare.
She called for continued cooperation among women, families, traditional and religious institutions as well as community leaders in building a peaceful, united and prosperous Anambra West.
The engagements provided an opportunity for the women to interact directly with the mayor, raise concerns and discuss ways of strengthening community development and family welfare.
