The Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council (ASTRC) has conferred the prestigious chieftaincy title of ‘Ugoeze’ on Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, in recognition of her humanitarian service and commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians. The conferment took place on Sept. 10, during a reception held in her honour at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
Performing the conferment, Chairman of the ASTRC, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, commended Sen. Tinubu for her unwavering dedication to humanitarian service, describing her compassion, generosity and consistent support for vulnerable groups as qualities worthy of the traditional honour.

The council also applauded her efforts to reduce poverty, particularly among women and youths, noting that several women in Anambra State had benefited from her various empowerment initiatives, which had positively impacted many households across the state.
Responding, Sen. Tinubu expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers for the honour and thanked Ndi Anambra for the warm reception and hospitality accorded her during her visit.
The First Lady also commended the achievements of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in Anambra State and praised his wife for empowering 5,000 beneficiaries. She further announced N500 million in support of the state’s empowerment programme, with each beneficiary expected to receive N100,000.

Earlier, while addressing traditional rulers at the Light House, Government House, Awka, Sen. Tinubu emphasised the importance of the traditional institution as the foundational custodian of the land, urging young people to respect traditional authorities and preserve their cultural heritage.
Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo thanked the First Lady for choosing Anambra as the launch venue for the National Community Food Bank Initiative in the Southeast. According to him, “Public service is the greatest platform for philanthropy,” adding that Sen. Tinubu had used the platform entrusted to her by God to live out her christian calling through service to humanity.

The governor also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, saying progressive Nigerians were working towards a united country built on shared and sustainable prosperity and expanding opportunities for all. He commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as progress in macroeconomic reforms, infrastructure, education, security and human capital development.
“I see hope for Nigeria with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Soludo stated.
Soludo further appreciated his wife for empowering 5,000 Anambra women with start-up equipment and assured that the First Lady’s food bank programme would be extended to communities across the state, directing that every primary healthcare facility should have a food bank to ensure easy access to food support.
Earlier in the day, Sen. Tinubu officially launched the National Community Food Bank Programme in Anambra State at the Old Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia. The programme, powered by the Community Food Bank Trust Fund, is designed to strengthen food security, improve household nutrition, support local agricultural value chains and enhance community resilience. The First Lady also commissioned a modern ICT Experience Centre at the Federal Polytechnic Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
