The President-General of the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna, has been honoured with an outstanding leadership award by traders in Anambra State in recognition of his impactful contributions to market unity and development.

The award ceremony, held at Neo Gold Hotel on Umuoji Road, Nkpor, in Idemili North Local Government Area, also saw other prominent traders receive honours. Among them were ASMATA Patron, Chief Jude Nwankwo (Ochendo Umuawulu), Chief Nwabueze Umeh, Chief Jude Agumadu, Chief Bonfrancise Nzekwesili, and Chief Moses Umeh.

The event was organized by traders as a thanksgiving gathering to celebrate the successful abolition of the Monday sit-at-home directive by the Anambra State Government.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Anambra State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Engr Michael Obiekwe, described Anuna as a committed and effective leader who has contributed significantly to restoring order and stability across markets in the state.

He noted that Anuna has played a vital role in fostering cooperation between traders and the state government.

Obiekwe commended traders for their continued support for the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and encouraged them to remain united and focused in their businesses to drive economic growth in the state.

Responding, Chief Anuna, popularly known as “Onwa,” expressed appreciation for the recognition, noting that he was humbled by the honour. He remarked that while he may not fully account for all his contributions, traders are in a better position to judge his efforts.
Highlighting some of his gestures, Anuna mentioned his support for traders through community efforts, emphasizing his commitment to their welfare.

Also speaking, the Chairman of New Auto Spare Parts Market, Nkpor, Chief Offolee Stephen Obiora, praised the Anambra State Government for abolishing the Monday sit-at-home, describing it as a bold move that has restored business activities and improved traders’ livelihoods.

Similarly, the Chairman of Onye Aghananwanneya Abattoir, Umunya, Chief Chinedu Ubah, commended Anuna for his role in supporting the policy and congratulated him on the award, urging him to sustain his efforts in advancing traders’ interests.

Members of the ASMATA women’s wing, including Mrs Ezedobego Onyinyechukwu Blessing and the Deputy President-General, Chief Mrs Ifeoma Anene, also expressed joy over the development, describing the end of the sit-at-home as a significant relief for traders across the state.
