The Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr. Augustine Ezeka, has visited the management of Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, to explore collaboration aimed at expanding access to affordable healthcare for students.
Dr. Ezeka said the proposed partnership would enable students to benefit from the Tertiary Institution Students Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP), which is designed to provide students with access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
He spoke during his visit to the institution on Aug. 18, where he explained the benefits of the state health insurance scheme to the management, noting that health insurance could help students access medical care when needed while reducing the financial burden associated with healthcare expenses.

The Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Njideka Rita Chiekezie, appreciated the ASHIA management for the initiative, noting that the institution was already familiar with the scheme, as many of its staff are civil servants enrolled in the programme.
Dr. Chiekezie said she would present the proposal to the school’s governing board for consideration and communicate the institution’s position to the ASHIA Executive Secretary after the deliberations.
The meeting was attended by the Acting Registrar, Dr. Udala Nkechi; the Bursar, Mr. Onwubufo Tobechukwu; and other members of the institution’s management.
The proposed collaboration reflects ongoing efforts to extend health insurance coverage to more people, particularly young people in tertiary institutions and strengthen access to affordable healthcare across Anambra State.
