The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has intensified its campaign on the importance of health insurance among residents of Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State. The sensitisation took place during a medical outreach sponsored by the Walter and Chioma Obi Family Foundation in collaboration with the Public Health Physicians Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Branch, on Aug. 22, at the Igwe’s Palace, Ukpo.
The outreach attracted a large turnout of residents who were sensitised on the benefits of enrolling in a health insurance scheme and the role of health insurance in ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare.

Representing the Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr Augustine Ezeka, Mrs Tonia Okoli explained that the agency provides enrollees with access to quality and affordable healthcare services through its network of accredited healthcare providers. She noted that health insurance helps individuals and families reduce the financial burden associated with unexpected medical expenses, while encouraging the residents to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the scheme.
The outreach featured a range of activities, including health insurance sensitisation, free medical consultations, vital signs checks, as well as free HIV and tuberculosis (TB) screening. The founder of the Walter and Chioma Family Foundation, Sir Chinedu Obi, also highlighted the importance of health insurance and encouraged residents to enrol in the scheme to safeguard their health and that of their families.

The Chairman of the Public Health Physicians Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Branch, Dr Chidi Okereke, appreciated ASHIA for providing detailed information on health insurance and encouraged the people of Ukpo to register with the Agency.
