The Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has urged motorists to exercise greater caution while driving during the rainy season, warning that wet road conditions significantly increase the risk of accidents.
In a statement shared on its Facebook page on June 25, the agency advised drivers to be mindful of slippery road surfaces and poor visibility often associated with rainfall, stressing the need for patience and responsible driving, urging motorists to avoid speeding and unnecessary haste while on the road.
According to the agency, rainfall reduces tyre grip and visibility, creating hazardous conditions for motorists, pedestrians and other road users, noting that excessive speed, reckless driving and disregard for traffic regulations remain major causes of avoidable crashes and fatalities.
“Beware of wet roads. Drive safely and don’t rush,” ARTMA stated, reminding motorists that no journey is worth risking lives for and that arriving safely should always take precedence over speed.
The agency advised drivers to maintain safe distances between vehicles, ensuring that their tyres and braking systems are in good condition, and remain alert, particularly during heavy downpours.
ARTMA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safer roads across Anambra State, calling on all road users to support efforts aimed at reducing traffic accidents.
The agency emphasized that caution, patience and strict adherence to traffic rules are essential for preventing road mishaps during the rainy season, urging motorists to make safety their top priority at all times.
