Ozonkpu Dr Victor Ikechukwu Oye, immediate past National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Party, an indigene of Amawbia in Awka South LGA, has called on Christians to make the most of the Holy Week, describing it as a significant period in the history of the Catholic Church.
In an interview at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Amawbia on Palm Sunday, Oye emphasized the importance of participating in the week’s activities, saying, “It’s a preparatory step toward the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Christ. It’s a spiritual exercise, show penance, and ask God to continue to bless you in the years ahead.”

Palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week, commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where he was greeted with palm branches and hailed as the Messiah.
He urged Christians to persevere through hard times, saying, “Life is not easy, times are very hard, people are suffering, so let them build their suffering into the Holy Week for greater benefit.” He emphasized the importance of charity, citing Matthew 19:26, “With God, all things are possible.”
The APGA chieftain expressed his joy in participating in the Holy Week activities, saying, “I’m very happy to be a part of it, and I don’t know how many more we are going to celebrate, everything is in God’s hands.”
Chief Oye’s message was echoed by parishioners, who gathered to celebrate Palm Sunday with thanksgiving and reflection. The event featured prayers, hymns, and a procession with palm branches, symbolizing Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.
