Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has described the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as a political “visa” through which many Igbo politicians rose to prominence.
Soludo stated this on Sept. 19 at the headquarters of Ekwusigo Local Government Area in Ozubulu, shortly after commissioning projects executed by the outgoing council chairman, Hon. Chinezie Obi.
The governor said it was unfortunate that some politicians who benefited from the APGA platform had later defected to other parties and now sought to undermine its relevance.
“APGA has been a visa through which many Igbo politicians rode to stardom,” Soludo said.
He also called for a more strategic approach to national politics by the people of the South-East, saying the region should strengthen its engagement with the Federal Government.
Soludo said such engagement would enable the region to secure what he described as its due share of national opportunities and resources.
He said APGA’s position was to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, while seeking to retain the National Assembly and state assembly seats in Anambra.
“APGA has the mantra of progressives working together,” he said.
The governor also recalled APGA’s performance in the recently concluded local government elections in Anambra, saying the party secured all the chairmanship and councillorship positions in the state.
Soludo commended Obi for his management of council resources and the execution of development projects in the area.
The projects commissioned included roads, closed circuit television (CCTV) installations and skill acquisition centres for youths and students.
He said the projects showed that local governments could execute meaningful capital projects when their resources were properly managed.
Soludo pledged to reward Obi for his performance and expressed confidence that the incoming council mayor, Hon. Ifeanyi Onuchukwu, would build on his predecessor’s achievements.
Obi commended Soludo for his leadership and said his administration had benefited from the governor’s development initiatives.
“What you saw here today is a testament to my vision,” Obi said.
Onuchukwu said he had already drawn up an action plan for his administration and would commence implementation after his inauguration.
The event also featured the presentation of Community Service Awards to Obi and Onuchukwu by the Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC), Youth Wing, led by its President-General, Hon. Ken Okoli.
