The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) and the Anambra State Ministry of Health are exploring stronger collaboration to improve maternal and child healthcare, with emphasis on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV and other infectious diseases.
The initiative emerged from a meeting between the Executive Director of ANSACA, Dr. Nkem Okeke, and the Ministry of Health’s Reproductive Health Coordinator, Dr. Ifediora Ngozika C. on Oct. 21.
Discussions focused on strengthening the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, improving maternal healthcare services and engaging traditional birth attendants to promote safer childbirth practices across the state.

The meeting also underscored the importance of encouraging pregnant women to attend antenatal clinics and deliver in recognised health facilities, where they can access skilled care, HIV testing, appropriate preventive interventions and other essential services to safeguard their health and that of their babies.
The proposed collaboration aims to improve coordination between ANSACA and relevant units of the Ministry of Health, ensuring that mothers and children have timely access to essential healthcare and interventions against preventable infections.
The partnership aligns with the Solution Government of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and its commitment to improving healthcare access and protecting the well being of Ndi Anambra.
Through stronger collaboration, community awareness and early intervention, ANSACA is reinforcing its commitment to preventing new HIV infections among children and supporting Anambra State’s efforts to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
