Hon. Echezona Anazodo’s tenure as Mayor of Nnewi North LGA has transformed waste management into a model other LGAs are now understudying.
Before 11 June 2026, areas like Nkwo Nnewi and 100-Foot Road battled heaps of refuse. The Anazodo administration changed this through scheduled door-to-door evacuation across Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim, and Nnewichi, supported by branded waste carts and sanitation teams.
The council also acquired modern compactor trucks and heavy-duty tippers to improve haulage from markets such as Nkwo Nnewi and Agboedo. To tackle flooding, the Mayor approved strategic catchment pits at flood-prone points, recognising that blocked drainage causes 70 per cent of urban waste problems.
Hon. Anazodo said the initiative aligns with Prof. Chukwuma C. Soludo’s “Clean, Green, and Sustainable Anambra” agenda.
“Our model rests on three pillars: consistency, capacity, and prevention. We are proud other LGAs are adopting it as we deliver on Mr Governor’s vision for a new Anambra,” he stated.
