The Executive Mayor of Nnewi North LGA, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has outlined key priorities of his administration during an address to Nzukọ-Ọra Nnewi on, 6th September, with focus on peace, infrastructure, urban planning, and environmental sustainability.
Hon. Anazodo described the peace currently enjoyed in Nnewi as remarkable. He thanked God and all stakeholders who contributed to restoring lasting peace in Nnewi North, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining security to attract investors.
The Mayor disclosed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has reaffirmed commitment to the facelift of Nnewi, with two major roundabouts currently receiving attention. He added that Nnewi North LGA will take over all stalled road construction projects for immediate asphalt laying from now till December.
Hon. Anazodo reminded residents of the State Government’s policy on zero shanties along major roads. He advised Ndi Nnewi to make necessary consultations before building along the Nnewi-Oba Road due to the proposed Trunk A Road project.
The Mayor announced an environmental drive that includes massive tree planting to clean and beautify Nnewi. He said government is working out modalities for households to pay a token for waste evacuation to ensure effective service delivery, and warned that indiscriminate dumping of refuse will be treated as an offense.
On flooding and erosion, Hon. Anazodo noted that government intervention on erosion is not imminent and urged community leaders to take proactive steps. He further stated that the State Government has mandated the LGA to seal any building without catchment pits after construction to help reduce flooding.
The Mayor said the Local Government Secretariat remains open to everyone. “Come with meaningful partnerships that will move Nnewi North forward,” he stated.
On the Nnewi Town Hall project, Hon. Anazodo expressed optimism that discussions on the construction site will be concluded soon, describing it as a key project he hopes to deliver.
He concluded by thanking Ndi Nnewi and praying for continued peace and progress in Nnewi North.
