The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area(LGA), Hon. Dr. Paulinus Nnamdi Okafor, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the area to uphold the values of the scheme and use their skills to contribute meaningfully to community development.
Dr. Okafor made the call when he received the NYSC Anaocha Local Government Coordinator, Mrs. Anuli Ayiba, and some corps members at the council secretariat in Neni.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the local government administration and corps members, particularly in promoting youth participation in community development.
The mayor commended the corps members for their dedication and contributions to the growth of Anaocha, assuring them of his administration’s readiness to support their welfare and promote a safe environment throughout their service year.
He encouraged them to consider Anaocha their home, conduct themselves responsibly and serve as worthy ambassadors of the NYSC by applying their knowledge and skills to address community needs.
Dr. Okafor emphasised that their service year should be an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of residents while gaining valuable experience and building relationships within their host communities.
In her remarks, Mrs. Ayiba appreciated the mayor for the warm reception and his commitment to the welfare of corps members. She also appealed for continued cooperation and support from the local government to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
The engagement underscored the importance of collaboration between local governments and the NYSC in creating a supportive environment for corps members and maximising their contributions to grassroots development.
