The Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Rome Ibekwe, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering young people and creating greater opportunities for their participation in governance and community development. Hon. Ibekwe stated this in a message commemorating International Youth Day 2026, which was observed across the world on August 12.
He described the youths of Anaocha as a critical political and economic force, stressing that they should not be treated merely as leaders of tomorrow but as active stakeholders in governance and development today.
According to him, the success of the Greater Anaocha Vision depends significantly on the ability of the administration to equip young people with skills, opportunities and support required to become economically independent and actively involved in shaping the future of the local government.
Hon. Ibekwe identified education, vocational training, entrepreneurship, technology and political participation as key areas of youth development, noting that deliberate investment in young people remains essential to sustainable development.
He also stressed the need for youths to take a more active role in democratic processes, saying their energy, ideas and numerical strength could significantly influence the direction of governance at the grassroots, state and national levels.
His position comes amid renewed national calls for greater youth participation in Nigerian politics, particularly as stakeholders continue to raise concerns over voter apathy and the need to encourage young Nigerians to become more involved in democratic processes.
He therefore, urged young people in Anaocha and Anambra State to take advantage of legitimate opportunities, acquire relevant skills and remain committed to peaceful and constructive political engagement.
The Mayor further assured that his administration would continue to support programmes and initiatives capable of improving the economic prospects of young people while creating avenues for them to contribute meaningfully to governance.
”Youth empowerment should go beyond political mobilisation. Young people must also be equipped with the education, skills, technology and entrepreneurial opportunities required to build sustainable livelihoods. Anaocha youths, shun violence at all times, political intolerance and other activities capable of undermining the peace and development of the area rather use your influence to promote unity and progress.”
