The Anambra State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen digital governance with the statewide adoption of its official government email domain, @anambrastate.gov.ng, as part of measures to enhance institutional accountability, cybersecurity and efficiency across the public service.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Anambra State Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), is designed to establish a secure and trusted digital communication system that enables official government correspondence to be authenticated, protected and efficiently managed.

The adoption aligns with Nigeria’s National Second Level Domain Policy, approved by the Federal Executive Council on February 16, 2022, which encourages public institutions to use official government domains such as .gov.ng to strengthen digital identity, improve cybersecurity and build public confidence in government communications.

Building on this national policy, Anambra State has achieved full adoption of the official email domain at the Executive Council level and is now extending the initiative to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The objective is to create a unified, secure and reliable communication framework across the state’s public service.

Speaking on the initiative, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICTA, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, CFA, described the adoption of the official government email domain as a critical milestone in the state’s digital transformation journey.

According to him, the initiative goes beyond technology, laying the foundation for a more transparent, efficient and future-ready public service.

“Digital transformation begins with digital trust. The identity of government communication matters because trust, accountability and institutional memory depend on knowing that official information is coming from a verified source. By strengthening our digital communication infrastructure, we are building systems that support better governance and a more efficient public service,” he said.

Agbata disclosed that ICTA is coordinating the statewide rollout through a structured onboarding process that includes account provisioning, identity verification, staff sensitisation and technical support for MDAs.

He noted that significant progress has already been recorded, assuring that the agency would continue supporting the remaining institutions to complete the onboarding process and achieve full compliance.

The initiative also complements the state’s broader digital governance agenda and ICTA’s vision of becoming an AI-First Native Agency by establishing the secure digital infrastructure required for improved decision-making, innovation and service delivery.

Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies have been urged to prioritise the onboarding process and ensure that their staff members are fully integrated into the official communication platform.

Government stakeholders and members of the public were also advised to verify the authenticity of official correspondence and exercise caution when dealing with communications that do not originate from the approved @anambrastate.gov.ng domain.
