The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has intensified enforcement of urban planning regulations with the demolition of structures and fence walls erected within approved road alignments across the capital territory.

The exercise, which was carried out on July 1, targeted property owners and developers who illegally extended fences and other structures into designated public road corridors, obstructing planned infrastructure projects and violating established physical planning standards.

ACTDA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining orderly urban development, stressing that it will not compromise on enforcement of planning regulations.

The authority warned that encroachment on road reserves, obstruction of drainage channels, and violations of approved building setbacks will attract appropriate sanctions in line with existing planning laws.

The agency urged developers and property owners to adhere strictly to approved building plans and obtain the necessary approvals before commencing construction to avoid demolition and unnecessary financial losses.

Residents are encouraged to report illegal developments, road encroachments, or make inquiries through ACTDA’s dedicated hotline: +234 703 965 0429.
