Anambra State Ministry of Health in Collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and The Carter Center (TCC) has embarked on Lymphatic Filariasis Transmission Assessment Survey (TAS) and Impact Assessment of drug administration on Schistosomiasis (SCH) and Soil transmitted Helminthiasis (STH) in the state.
The exercise which started on Saturday June 26, 2026 on a 3-Day training of all the assessment Team members in a Hotel at Awka was meant to build their capacity for effective delivery and successful outcome.
Speaking, the Director Public Health, SMOH, Dr. Afam Anaeme, represented by the Programme Officer, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD), SMOH, Dr. Emmanuel Obikwelu said that the assessment was to confirm that the diseases have not re-emerged, importation of the parasite has not occurred and that the transmission remains suppressed below sustainable levels.
In his goodwill message, the Country Representative The Carter Center (TCC), Dr. Adamu said that TCC has supported mass drug administration of Ivermectin, Albendazole, Praziquantel in the state for so many years for elimination of Elephantiasis (LF), Hydrocele, SCH and STH (Round worms, hook worms and Tape worms).
“This assessment is to find out if we still have the diseases in the state in order to decide the next step,” he said.
The National Programme Manager, Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), Mrs. Chinwe Okoye commended the State Government, Federal Ministry of Health and TCC for their support. She implored the participants to take the training and exercise very seriously as this would be the last stage of LF Transmission assessment survey in the state.
Also at the training were the South East Zonal Coordinator, Lymphatic Filariasis, Mrs. Onyia Chinenye, the Anambra State Programme Officer, NTD Mrs. Egeonu Attamah, and Team from the Federal Ministry of Health.
