The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has commenced consultations with key stakeholders to strengthen security at Uga Boys Secondary School following the recent theft of facilities at the institution.

At a meeting held on June 22 at the Ministry of Education, State Secretariat Complex, Awka, Dr. Ogugua met with the Principal of the school, Mrs. Gertrude Onwudufor, and the President-General of the host community, Engr. Bonny Onwuka, to discuss practical measures for safeguarding the school and preventing future incidents.

During the meeting, stakeholders identified several security challenges affecting the effective protection of the school and proposed measures to improve access control and surveillance within the premises.

Among the recommendations was the installation of CCTV cameras to enhance monitoring of movement within and around the school, alongside other measures aimed at improving the security of government facilities.
Expressing concern over the theft, Dr. Ogugua reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that facilities provided for students are adequately protected.

He emphasized the need for close collaboration among the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Housing, the school management, and the host community in securing public assets.

As part of efforts to address the situation, Dr. Ogugua also met with the Commissioner for Housing, Arc. Henry Arinze, at the State Secretariat, Awka. Their discussions focused on the security of the school and the completion of ongoing projects at the institution.

Following the meeting, Arc. Henry Arinze assured that the school would be handed over to the management, enabling both the school authorities and the host community to take greater responsibility for safeguarding the facilities already installed.

Dr. Ogugua expressed confidence that the collaboration among the Ministries of Education and Housing, the school management, and the community would strengthen the protection of public infrastructure for the benefit of students and future generations.
