The Anambra State Government will begin mandatory registration and data capture of all sports instructors, officers and administrators across the state.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, on September 24, at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Awka.
Agha Mba said under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership, sports had been repositioned for youth empowerment, job creation, talent discovery and grassroots development.
He said the initiative aligned with the People’s Manifesto and was aimed at strengthening sports development through competent, trained and certified personnel at grassroots level.
The commissioner said ministry checks revealed that many sports personnel in schools, academies, clubs and communities lacked formal registration and standardized knowledge of sports fundamentals, safety and ethics.
He said registration forms would be available from Monday, September 28, at the Ministry of Education, ASUBEB, PPSSC, sports associations, stadiums and designated ministry desk officers in all local government areas
The commissioner said registered personnel would undergo comprehensive retraining covering sports administration, coaching principles, safety, anti-doping, safeguarding and specialized technical sessions.
He said participants would receive certification from the Ministry, adding that the certificate would become a basic requirement for practicing as sports instructors or administrators.
He said workshops would hold in Awka, Onitsha and Aguata for Anambra Central, North and South respectively, urging all sports personnel to register for improved grassroots sports development.
