ANAMBRA STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH POLICE

Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Chika Ifemeje has paid a courtesy visit to the state Commissioner of Police at the Command Headquarters in Awka. The visit aimed to foster collaboration and synergy between the Ministry of Justice and the state police. 

Professor Ifemeje emphasized the need for improvement in recording confessional statements, urging the police to take necessary actions.

 Highlighting the importance of recording confessional statements from suspects to combat injustice in Anambra State, she assured the police that her ministry is committed to supporting their efforts, particularly during this critical period, to ensure the state remains safe.

The Attorney General stressed the need for collaboration between her ministry and the police to achieve effective results. “We are here to welcome you, extend a hand of fellowship, and ensure that justice is served,” she said.  She briefed the CP on the newly enacted Homeland Security Laws, which were passed approximately two weeks ago. The laws aimed to rid the state of all criminal elements and ensure a safer environment. 

Professor Ifemeje seized the opportunity to inform the CP about the Bureau of Missing Persons, domiciled in the Ministry of Justice. This bureau serves as a reporting center for missing persons, where relevant information is collected to facilitate investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu in response, pledged to collaborate fully with the ministry, exceeding the level of cooperation of his predecessor. He emphasized that this collaboration is not only a matter of courtesy, but also a constitutional requirement.

The visit featured, Mrs. Ndirika Onyekwelu (Esq) Supervisory Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Nneka Umeozulu(Esq), Director of Public Prosecutions, Ministry of Justice among other police officers.
