The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has commissioned a one-kilometre access road at the Naval Outpost Onitsha, built by philanthropist Chief Anthony Obele.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Udeze commended Obele for aligning with the state’s vision of a livable and prosperous homeland, saying that the the road will boost operational efficiency of the Naval Outpost and ease movement for residents and businesses.

The Speaker reaffirmed government’s commitment to partner with private individuals and organizations to accelerate infrastructure, stressing that development cannot rest on government alone.
Representing the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral S.D. Ibrahim hailed the project as a timely and strategic intervention. He noted that improved access is critical for rapid response, logistics, and operational readiness, adding that the road will strengthen security presence and safeguard lives and property.

Ibrahim also thanked the Anambra State Government for its consistent support and urged Ndi Anambra and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate such gestures for national security and community development.
Chief Obele said the road signifies commitment to community growth and shared responsibility, driven by a desire to give back to society. He noted that connectivity is essential for both security and socio-economic development.
The commissioning drew top naval officers, including Commander, Naval Base Oguta, Commodore Sabo Lengaya; Commander, Naval Outpost Onitsha, Commander Kabiru Yusuf; the traditional ruler of Iyiowa Odekpe; military personnel; and residents.
