The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Oji Ama, has called on the Anambra State Chapter of the Scout Association of Nigeria to collaborate with the Police in promoting public safety, preventing crime and maintaining law and order across the state.

The Commissioner made the call on October 20, when members of the Association paid him a courtesy visit at the Command Headquarters in Awka.

This was contained in a press release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State Police Command, Awka on October 20.

According to Ikenga, CP Nnanna emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships and community participation in addressing security challenges, noting that the responsibility of ensuring a peaceful and secure society should not rest solely on security agencies.

He stated that organised groups, youth associations, community-based organisations and other stakeholders have significant roles to play in identifying security concerns, providing credible information and supporting crime-prevention efforts.

The Police Commissioner urged members of the Scout Association to utilise their organisational structure, discipline and presence in communities to promote safety awareness, responsible citizenship and peaceful coexistence, particularly among young people.

He further encouraged the Association to contribute to the protection of lives and property by educating its members and the wider public on security consciousness and the importance of promptly reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to community-based policing, CP Nnanna said effective security depends on public trust, cooperation and timely intelligence from residents.

He assured the Association of the Command’s readiness to sustain mutually beneficial engagements that would strengthen police-community relations and enhance security across Anambra State.

The Commissioner also advised members of the Association to ensure that their activities remain within the law while working closely with security agencies to promote peace and order.

The visit underscores the importance of collaboration between the Police and community organisations in building a safer Anambra State.
