‎
‎The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has warned officers of the command against misconduct, extortion, abuse of authority and other unprofessional practices, stressing that disciplinary standards and accountability must be upheld across all formations.
‎
‎The warning followed an emergency security briefing convened by the Commissioner on October 20, at the Command Headquarters in Awka, to review the security situation in the state and strengthen operational effectiveness.
‎
‎The briefing, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, brought together Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders to discuss security challenges, operational preparedness, supervisory responsibilities and professionalism in policing.
‎
‎Addressing the officers, CP Oji Ama urged them to remain vigilant, disciplined and accountable while carrying out their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property. He emphasised the need for integrity, respect for citizens’ fundamental rights and responsible conduct in all police operations.
‎
‎The commissioner warned that any officer found engaging in extortion, abuse of power or other forms of misconduct would face appropriate action. He noted that effective leadership must be reflected in proper supervision, improved operational performance and the prompt identification and correction of lapses.
‎
‎He also directed Area Commanders, DPOs and tactical teams to intensify intelligence-led policing, maintain operational alertness and respond promptly to distress calls. He further called for stronger collaboration with sister security agencies and relevant stakeholders to prevent and tackle criminal activities across the state.
‎
‎CP Oji Ama charged supervisory officers to ensure strict compliance with operational directives, monitor the conduct of personnel under their supervision and promptly communicate security developments within their jurisdictions. He cautioned against complacency, emphasising proactive policing, coordinated operations and effective leadership at all levels.
‎
‎The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to regularly evaluating the performance and conduct of its personnel to address operational weaknesses, strengthen discipline and improve the quality of policing services available to residents.
‎
‎While commending officers who have demonstrated courage, dedication and professionalism, CP Oji Ama urged all personnel to remain committed to their duties and work collectively to sustain peace, enhance public confidence and safeguard communities throughout Anambra State.
