The Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agumadu, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to address electricity challenges and improve power supply across the state.

Engr. Agumadu made the pledge during a familiarisation visit to the TCN Onitsha Sub-Regional Office on June 25, as part of his assessment of critical power infrastructure in Anambra State.
He said the visit was aimed at obtaining first-hand technical information that would help identify constraints within the transmission network and facilitate the development of practical, long-term engineering solutions to enhance electricity supply.

According to the commissioner, the exercise aligns with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to expand reliable power infrastructure, eliminate distribution bottlenecks and promote industrial growth and economic development in the state.
Welcoming the delegation, the Assistant General Manager of TCN, Engr. Donatus Ifeanyi Okonkwo, expressed the company’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Anambra State Government in addressing electricity supply challenges.

Engr. Okonkwo assured the commissioner of TCN’s technical support, noting that sustained collaboration between both institutions would significantly improve power transmission, ensuring a more stable and reliable electricity network across the state.
He, however, pointed out that power infrastructure projects are highly capital-intensive and require careful planning, technical expertise and adequate time for successful execution and long-term sustainability.
As part of the visit, the commissioner also inspected the Ugwu Nwasike Injection Substation in Ogidi, which receives bulk electricity from the national transmission grid and steps it down for distribution to consumers.
The substation supplies electricity to Ogidi, Awka and neighbouring communities, making it a critical facility in the state’s efforts to strengthen power distribution, improving access to reliable electricity.
