‎The Anambra State Police Command has released a detailed update on the cult-related shooting that took place on the evening of December 7, 2025, at Afor Nawfia Market, located along the Onitsha–Awka Old Road.
‎
‎According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers from the Special Anti-Cult Squad in Enugwu-Ukwu had, four days prior, arrested two dangerous suspects based on credible intelligence about a planned gang confrontation. A firearm was recovered during the arrest, and the suspects are now cooperating with police to help prevent further violence in Awka and surrounding areas.
‎
‎Despite these preventative efforts, members of the same cult gang launched a violent attack that evening. Arriving in a black Lexus Jeep (registration number currently unknown), the assailants opened fire indiscriminately at Afor Nawfia Market, killing four people before fleeing the scene.
‎
‎Although the attackers escaped prior to police arrival, initial evidence gathered at the site is providing valuable leads. The Command is actively pursuing these leads to apprehend the perpetrators.
‎
‎The Anambra State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to eradicating cultism, violent crime, and all criminal activities within the State. Updates will be provided as investigations continue.
