The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its vigilance and prompt information sharing, following the recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry and the arrest of two suspects in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.
The suspects, identified as Umeh Thankgod, aged 32, and Sunday Ozor, aged 24, were arrested on October 28, by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) at the Old Spare Parts Market, Mgbuka, Obosi, following a distress alert from FRSC personnel.
According to an official statement issued to journalists by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on November 1, the arrest followed the detection of irregularities during a routine vehicle registration verification exercise by FRSC operatives in Awka, who subsequently alerted the Police for necessary intervention.
Acting on the information, police operatives moved swiftly to the location, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of a blue Toyota Camry suspected to have been stolen.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was reportedly stolen on September 29, 2026, from the residence of a 90-year-old retired Professor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State.
The victim was subsequently contacted and positively identified the recovered vehicle as his property. He also disclosed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen from his compound with the assistance of his gateman, identified as Bassey Etim, who is currently at large.
The police command stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
CP Oji Ama, while appreciating the FRSC personnel for their vigilance and prompt reporting, emphasised the importance of effective inter-agency collaboration, timely information sharing and coordinated responses in preventing and detecting crime, recovering stolen property and ensuring public safety.
The command reiterated its commitment to strengthening security operations and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
