The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property following the foiling of a suspected kidnap attempt along the Ogbakuba-Ossomala Road on October 20.

The incident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. when suspected armed men reportedly blocked the road and opened fire on unsuspecting road users.

According to preliminary police information, the suspects, allegedly armed with AK-47 rifles, were suspected of planning to abduct motorists and other travellers along the route.

Their activities were disrupted by a joint security team conducting operations against armed secessionist groups in the area, preventing the suspected attackers from carrying out the alleged abduction.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism in addressing the security threat.

CP Oji Ama reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks, preventing kidnapping and ensuring the safety of residents and commuters across the state.

The police disclosed that security operations were continuing in the area to strengthen public safety and prevent further criminal activities along the road.

The command urged residents and road users to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies and cooperate with security operatives in the collective effort to combat crime.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on October 20, 2026.
