‎The Anambra State Police Command has denied allegations that its officers demanded N600,000 for the release of Miss Nwosu Chikamso Jennifer, describing the claim as a diversionary tactic aimed at distracting investigators from an ongoing investigation. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka on Sept. 9.
‎
‎According to Ikenga, the police would not allow allegations of monetary demands to distract the command from its investigation into the matter. He explained that Miss Nwosu was interrogated in the presence of her lawyer, during which she denied communicating with the suspect for more than five years.
‎
‎The police spokesman, however, stated that information available to investigators indicated that Nwosu and the suspect communicated on the night of the incident. SP Ikenga explained that the communication under investigation allegedly contained information relating to the death of the victim, as well as an alert to the suspect that the Police were closing in on him.
‎
‎He stressed that the command remained focused on uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident and would not be distracted by what he described as diversionary allegations.
‎
The police spokesman reiterated that the investigation was ongoing and urged members of the public to allow investigators to carry out their duties without interference. He added that the command would provide further information as the investigation progresses.
