The Anambra State Police Command has launched a robust security crackdown following the circulation of alarming but unverified voice notes and social media messages stirring panic across the state. Authorities have stepped up efforts to safeguard residents and swiftly neutralize any emerging threats.
In an official statement issued in Awka by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the Command’s decisive response, which includes heightened surveillance, increased visible policing, and intensified routine and targeted patrols in the areas flagged by the misleading messages. While initial investigations reveal no credible evidence behind the rumors, the Police remain vigilant and proactive.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Units, and Joint Security Teams to be on high alert, enhance intelligence gathering, and sustain aggressive patrol operations to forestall any security lapses.
Residents are advised to remain composed and refrain from disseminating unverified information that may exacerbate fear and panic as the Police Command emphasizes that propagating unsubstantiated security alerts may attract legal consequences.
The Command reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding lives and property as the public is encouraged to report any security concerns or incidents to the Police Control Room Hotline: 07039194332 or Emergency Number: 112.
Citizens on the other hand are advised to remain vigilant yet composed, as security forces are fully prepared and proactive in their efforts to protect Anambra State.
