The Anambra Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor has issued a stern call to the staff of the Ministry of Information to overhaul their work ethics and elevate performance standards. Speaking firmly at his office in Awka, he condemned the widespread truancy and lack of dedication displayed by some employees, warning that neglecting duties will trigger strict disciplinary measures.
Underscoring the role of civil servants, Dr. Mefor stressed that government workers owe diligent, selfless service to the public and must reject complacency. Drawing from personal experience, he acknowledged the efforts of dedicated staff while reprimanding those who fail to take their responsibilities seriously.
In a focused session with the Film Department led by Mr. Peter Onyejekwu, critical challenges were laid bare including obsolete equipment, frequent power outages, and damaged tools hindering production. Despite these setbacks, Dr. Mefor urged the team to capitalize on the growing demand for video content and reaffirmed that information officers must report government activities impartially, advising dissenters to resign.
Highlighting the risk of outsiders encroaching on the ministry’s responsibilities due to internal inefficiencies, the Commissioner announced his determination to establish an in-house film studio dedicated to broadcasting and public engagement. He also said that he personally financed the ministry’s website launch, emphasizing the need for resourcefulness beyond government funding.
Dr. Mefor challenged all staff to embrace accountability, innovation, and teamwork to transform the ministry into a dynamic, results-driven institution, assuring unwavering support for employees who demonstrate resolve and dedication to public service excellence.
